Amid the endless flood of news about plastic in our oceans, we decided to stop being mere spectators. It was clear to us from the outset that if we wanted to make the world a little cleaner with PUREWAVE, we had to start with our own packaging. Our first step was to stop producing new plastic. And, of course, that all packaging and bottles must be 100% recyclable - from the spray head to the label. To make sustainable waves, we also teamed up with CleanHub - and now we're surfing the big wave of change together! 

CleanHub - time for a breath of fresh air in waste management

CleanHub is not just another start-up on the green market. They are pioneers who use innovative solutions to tackle plastic waste where it is generated - before it even reaches our oceans. With their global network and a clever waste disposal system, the Berliners are making it possible for plastic to be properly recycled or reintroduced into the cycle as energy. Their technology is used worldwide exactly where it is needed most.

The secret behind CleanHub? Technology that understands the ocean

CleanHub stands out not only because of its mission to keep plastic waste out of the ocean, but above all because of its innovative technology that makes every step of the way transparent and traceable. It all starts with a simple but ingenious system that ensures that every kilogram of plastic collected is actually recorded. This means that not only can we rely on receiving meaningful and reliable figures, but so can our customers: Greenwashing is definitely not possible with this! Good to know, isn't it?

And this is how it works:

• Registration with QR codes: Plastic collectors record their collected waste by scanning a QR code and taking a photo of the collected waste with their smartphone.
• A seamless audit trail: The photo provides data points for the CleanHub system to track the collected plastic seamlessly through to recycling. This means that no plastic goes unobserved and ensures that nothing disappears on the way to recycling.
• Next, AI comes into play: CleanHub's machine learning models predict how much plastic each collected bag is filled with and estimate the volume and density - all based on this one photo.
• No chance of fraud: if the weight given does not match the value determined by the AI, more photos are taken from different angles. The AI then looks for discrepancies again to guarantee the most accurate evaluation possible.

With this technology, they can ensure that the amount collected is actually disposed of and recycled responsibly - a real anti-greenwashing guarantee! (Sidefact: The plastic credit system is literally TÜV-certified. According to TÜV SÜD ISO 14064-3:2020. ;) )

No energy goes unused off the ship

The collected plastic can be divided into two categories for recycling:

• Recyclable materials are sold to local recycling companies.
• Non-recyclable materials are co-processed in collaboration with Geocycle. Co-processing simultaneously recycles mineral materials and recovers energy for a cement production process. This means that the material is used as comprehensively as possible: instead of simply being landfilled or incinerated, significantly more energy can be generated.

Safety first - for the environment and collectors

Clean Hub's technology is designed to meet international social standards. In addition, certain features of the program ensure that collectors can recognize when they are entering sensitive areas, such as cliffs. There are automated markers for this in the CleanHub app. And for the benefit of the environment, they can also check whether there have been any breaches of safety regulations.
